GEFYRA is awarded for the “GREEN BRIDGE”

Gefyra S.A. was awarded with a SILVER AWARD in the category "Sustainable Infrastructure Development" in the context of the annual "ENVIRONMENTAL AWARDS" to promote the best environmental practices used by public and private sector entities.

Specifically, GEFYRA was distinguished for its strategic plan (implemented at the Rion-Antirion Bridge "Charilaos Trikoupis") called "GREEN BRIDGE", which has so far ensured the upgrade of the road lighting with LED bulbs, the supply of electric power 100% from renewable sources, the opening up to electro-mobility (with charging stations at the Antirion toll plaza and the use of electric cars) and the deepening of the environmental culture of its staff.

On the occasion of the awards, Mr. Panayiotis Papanikolas, President of Gefyra S.A. said the following:

"Life itself shows that the most sustainable force on our planet is encouraging those who work steadily for a better tomorrow, delivering results.

We, the people of the Rion-Antirion Bridge, have been accustomed to this feeling from the years of the bridge construction until today, trying (as representatives of the private sector) to provide excellent public service while being useful to society and to halt climate change. So if we have to thank the jury tonight, it is for their practical encouragement to continue to increase our innovative green practices and drastically reduce our environmental footprint.”

In the same vein, the company's immediate goals are to further reduce energy consumption, fossil fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, to further enhance electro-mobility and to continuously raise awareness among employees and users through training and awareness-raising activities in this direction.

On behalf of the President of the company, the award, presented by the Mayor of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni, Mr. Grigoris Konstantellos, was received by Ms. Eleni Kondyli, Head of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment, accompanied by the Director of Corporate Communication & Sustainable Development, Mr. Yannis Freris.

VOLUNTARY CLEAN UP OF THE RION CASTLE COAST

On September 22, 2022, in the context of the Environment Day of VINCI Group (major shareholder of GEFYRA S.A.), the employees of the Rion-Antirion Bridge "Charilaos Trikoupis" carried out a voluntary action to clean the coast around the Rion Castle. The action was also attended by the volunteer group "Ethexis" of the University of Patras, with which GEFYRA S.A. has partnered in the context of active citizenship initiatives.
