As one of the largest multi-span cable-stayed bridges in the world, with a steel deck of total surface 135,500 square meters bearing 247,500 bolts, Rion-Antirrion bridge requires complex operations to be maintained at best standards. To allow the public to discover more, GEFYRA today releases a video showing how alpinists perform monitoring work on the cables and the external surfaces of the Bridge's pylons, providing an impressive spectacle:
This spectacular intervention is carried out every year as part of the maintenance plan delivered by the concession company. As member of the VINCI Highways network, the Rion-Antirrion bridge benefits from permanent investment and high-level expertise of one of the world’s leading highway concessionaires.
Panos Lοukas, CEO of the Rion-Antirrion bridge, said "since the Bridge opened in 2004, we have been applying the expertise of VINCI Highways to ensure that drivers benefit from maximum safety and the best possible driving experience. The inspections by the team of alpinists, who provided us with the impressive images you will enjoy in the video, are part of the €7 million maintenance investment we are implementing for the period 2023-2024. The Bridge is a key factor of sustainable economic and community development on both sides of the Strait, and we are committed to keep on investing promoting positive mobility. The alpinists inspection campaign for the summer of 2024, which will mark 20 years since the opening of the bridge, will again deliver spectacular images!".
