An “Earth Hour” dedicated to sustainable mobility

26 Μαρτίου 2022

Since 2009 and its first participation to WWF’s “Earth Hour”, the “Charilaos Trikoupis” Rio-Antirio Bridge has continuously been participating to this annual world mobilization, encouraging citizens, institutions, businesses and state services to symbolically de-activate the unnecessary lighting mechanism for sixty minutes (from 8:30pm to 9:30pm) in a way to save energy, as a symbolic gesture of sensitization in favor of the protection of the environment.

In the meantime, GEFYRA has consciously applied corporate greenhouse gas emissions reduction policies, while national and international scientific studies have in the past substantiated the sustainable operation of the Bridge, giving prominence to the improvement of the environmental status of the Rio-Antirio straits in the years that followed the construction of the infrastructure.

The participation to the “Earth Hour” on Saturday, March 26th is considered as one more statement of commitment of the concessionaire in the worldwide effort of circuit-breaking  the climate change. A commitment founded on measurements showing out that due to the “GREEN BRIDGE” corporate strategy, Greece’s national bridge has nowadays reduced its carbon footprint by 84,5% since 2015.

Thus, as a mobility infrastructure built to serve growth, “Charilaos Trikoupis” is also successfully serving the case of positive mobility, which is the common goal of all the concession projects of VINCI Highways, main shareholder of GEFYRA.

So, GEFYRA’s participation to the “Earth Hour 2022” activity is dedicated to the struggle for the sustainable future of a planet characterized from its own perpetual mobility.
