Panos Loukas, CEO of Gefyra, concessionaire of the Rion-Antirrion bridge, presented the bridge’s positive impact on regional connectivity at the Regional Growth Conference 2023 edition. Mr. Loukas notably explained how technical excellence, innovative maintenance and quality of service are pivotal commitments of the Bridge towards its users and regional stakeholders.
From the start of the design and construction phase, Gefyra has shown an exceptional engagement, supported by the VINCI Group, in favor of technical excellence and innovation: A characteristic example is the ultra-modern system of anti-seismic protection, which was distinguished by nine international awards from the scientific community.
Since the opening to service in 2004, Gefyra’s teams have been maintaining the bridge with the mission to reach the highest level of safety. Gefyra’s teams rely on innovative investments - including a real time system for technical assessment, thanks to sensors installed on the pylons, the deck, the cables and expansion joints.
Serving up to 12.000 vehicles on an average a day, Gefyra’s teams are committed to ensure a comfortable and safe crossing of the strait. Drivers benefit from 24/7 road safety patrols, free roadside assistance and service areas at each end of the bridge. Recently, Gefyra has been launching new services including chargers for electric vehicles.
“Under the leadership of the Greek public authorities, Rion-Antirrion Bridge has been positively demonstrating how the concession model can help design, build, deliver, maintain and operate mobility infrastructure, while bringing high-level service to drivers”, explained Panos Loukas. “Building on the know-how of our parent companies VINCI Highways and VINCI Concessions, Gefyra is proud to serve the development of the region by supporting mobility at the highest safety levels, 24/7”.
